A metronome that shows you where the beat is.
Set a tempo, pick how many beats to a bar, and watch the downbeat land. Tap along if you already know the speed and just need the number.

Using it well
Slower than feels necessary
The most common mistake is practising at the speed you want to play, rather than the speed you can play cleanly. A metronome is only useful if you are honest with it.
01
Start below your limit
Find the tempo where you make no mistakes at all. That is your real starting point, and it is usually slower than you expect.
02
Move in small steps
Four or five bpm at a time, only after a clean run. Big jumps reintroduce the errors you just spent time removing.
03
Feel the downbeat
Set beats per bar to match the music. The accented click is where the bar starts — that is what keeps you from drifting.
