Privacy
We collect as little as possible: an email address if you ask for the weekly lesson, and anonymous statistics about which pages get read. Nothing else.
Last updated 26 September 2026. This page describes what actually happens on this site rather than covering every legal eventuality. It is not legal advice.
Who runs this site
Keys n Dots is published at keysndots.com. If you want to reach us about anything on this page, write to info@keysndots.com.
What we collect
Your email address, if you give it to us
If you sign up for the weekly lesson, we store your email address. That is the only personal detail we ask for — no name, no age, no instrument, nothing else.
We use it for one thing: sending the weekly lesson. We do not sell it, rent it, or pass it to anyone for marketing.
Anonymous usage statistics
We use Google Analytics to see which pages get read and which do not. This tells us things like “forty people opened the circle of fifths page this week”. It does not tell us who you are.
Google sets cookies to do this. If you would rather it did not, most browsers let you block cookies, and browser extensions that block analytics work normally here — nothing on the site breaks without them.
Server logs
Our host records standard web server logs: IP address, browser type, which page was requested and when. This is automatic, applies to every website, and is used for security and diagnosing faults.
What we do not collect
The tools and songs run entirely in your browser. When you use the chord finder, the metronome, the note reader drill or any song page, nothing you do is sent anywhere. Your score in the note reader, the chords you look up, the tempo you practise at — none of it leaves your device or is recorded by us.
There are no advertising trackers on this site. No Facebook pixel, no ad networks, no retargeting, no session recording.
Comments are switched off, so there is nothing to collect there.
Who else is involved
Three companies process data on our behalf. Each has its own privacy policy.
- Kit stores the email list and sends the weekly lesson.
- Google Analytics provides the anonymous usage statistics.
- Bluehost hosts the site and keeps the server logs.
We do not share your data with anyone else.
How long we keep it
Your email address stays on the list until you unsubscribe, at which point Kit removes it. Analytics data is retained by Google on their standard schedule. Server logs are kept by our host for a short period and then discarded.
What you can do
Unsubscribe
Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click and you are off the list. You do not need to tell us why.
Ask what we hold, or ask us to delete it
Write to info@keysndots.com and we will tell you what we have or remove it. For an email address, that is a small job and we will do it quickly.
If you are in the UK, the European Union, or somewhere with similar rules, these rights are yours by law. We would do it anyway.
Children
This site is written for adults and older children learning an instrument. We do not knowingly collect email addresses from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has signed up, write to us and we will remove the address.
Changes
If we start collecting something new — which we have no plans to do — this page will be updated and the date at the top will change.
